Fund a professional or postgraduate course in India, with no repayment until after the course ends.
An education loan is the one loan where you borrow now and start repaying only after you are earning. That single feature is what makes it work for a student with no income.
You pay nothing during the course, plus a further six to twelve months after it ends. That whole period is the moratorium. Interest still accrues during it as simple interest, and if you do not pay it, it gets added to your principal when repayment starts.
That addition matters more than most families realise. On a ₹10 lakh loan at 10% over a four-year course, the accrued interest is about ₹4 lakh, and capitalising it means you then pay interest on that interest for years. Paying just the simple interest during the study period, even partly, is the single biggest saving available on this product. Our education loan calculator shows both scenarios side by side.
Up to ₹4 lakh: no collateral and usually no margin. From ₹4 lakh to ₹7.5 lakh: no collateral but a third-party guarantee is required. Above ₹7.5 lakh: tangible collateral is normally required, typically property or a fixed deposit.
Section 80E allows a deduction for the entire interest paid, with no upper limit, for up to eight years starting from when repayment begins. It is available to the student or to the parent, whoever is actually repaying. This is more generous than the home loan interest deduction and is widely overlooked.
We match the loan structure to the course and to the expected starting salary, and we tell you honestly whether servicing interest during the study period is affordable for your family, because it usually pays for itself many times over.
Repayment begins six to twelve months after the course ends, by which time the student should be earning.
Loans up to ₹4 lakh need no security at all. Between ₹4 lakh and ₹7.5 lakh a third-party guarantee is required.
The entire interest paid is deductible for up to eight years from the start of repayment, unlike the capped home loan benefit.
Hostel fees, examination and library charges, books, a laptop and study equipment are all normally within scope.
