The same fast gold-backed funding, repaid in monthly instalments instead of one lump sum at the end.
This is the same product as a bullet gold loan in every respect except the repayment. Here you pay a monthly EMI covering both interest and principal, and the balance reduces steadily until the loan closes and your gold is released.
With bullet repayment, nothing is repaid until the very end, so the entire amount must be found on one day. Many people who intend to save that sum month by month find they have not. The EMI structure builds that discipline in, and the outstanding falls from the first month.
Bullet loans usually run three to twelve months. An EMI gold loan can run up to thirty-six months, which makes a larger amount manageable against a modest monthly outgo.
Gold loan pricing is presented in more confusing ways than any other retail loan. Some lenders advertise a low rate that applies only for the first month or two, then step it up sharply. Others quote a monthly rate that sounds small and works out much higher annually. Always ask for the annual percentage rate and the total repayable amount in writing, and compare on that.
Some lenders will release part of your pledged jewellery as the outstanding falls. If you have pledged several items and expect to need one back for a family occasion, ask about this before you sign rather than after.
We compare the total repayable across lenders, not the headline rate, and we flag the tiered pricing structures that make a cheap-looking loan expensive.
Unlike a bullet loan, the outstanding falls from the first instalment, so there is no large sum to find at the end.
A longer term makes a larger loan comfortable against a modest monthly EMI.
Valuation and disbursal still happen the same day. Only the repayment structure differs.
Several lenders release some of the pledged items as the outstanding reduces. Confirm this before you sign.
